Johnson & Johnson recalls Neutrogena, Aveeno aerosol sunscreens
Johnson & Johnson is recalling five aerosol sunscreens under its Neutrogena and Aveeno brands after sampling showed low levels of a carcinogen in the products, according to a company press release.
The company is voluntarily recalling Neutrogena Beach Defense, Cool Dry Sport, Invisible Daily Defense and Ultra Sheer aerosol sunscreens, as well as Aveeno Protect + Refresh at the consumer level, according to the release.

Internal testing identified low levels of benzene, a human carcinogen, in some samples of the sunscreens. The company said it is investigating the cause of the issue.
“Based on exposure modeling and the Environmental Protection Agency’s framework, daily exposure to benzene in these aerosol sunscreen products at the levels detected in our testing would not be expected to cause adverse health consequences,” Johnson & Johnson said in the release. “Out of an abundance of caution, we are recalling all lots of these specific aerosol sunscreen products.”
The company asked consumers to stop using the products and to report adverse or side effects related to the products to the FDA’s MedWatch Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program, by downloading a form or by calling 1-800-332-1088 to request a reporting form.
