Medical video game creator Level Ex is adding a fifth specialty-specific game called Top Derm to its portfolio, according to a press release.

“Over 140 dermatologists collaborated with the video game industry’s top designers, developers and artists to advance the field of dermatology through play,” said Sam Glassenberg, CEO and founder of Level Ex.

Top Derm, Level Ex’s first dermatology mobile game, is designed to keep dermatologists up to date with the latest industry techniques, treatments and products through quick-burst challenges. Level Ex uses the tool DeepSkinFX generator to create high resolution imagery of any skin disorder on all regions of the body and all skin tones. Challenges combine evidence-based research with specific and rare photos while keeping players engaged with interactive play. Supplemental material is provided for players who are interested in learning more about a challenge topic, and preferences can be altered to fit the learning level of each player.

Level Ex intends to add new challenges and topics to Top Derm in the future. Information will be updated as information is released in the field, to keep players up to date.

“Top Derm is a unique resource leveraging technological advancements to help train and reinforce identification of a wide range of disorders and diseases on different skin tones and in different lighting conditions; it is a fun and interactive experience that educates us on important topics that impact many dermatology patients,” said Peter Lio, MD, of Medical Dermatology Associates of Chicago.
