In this video, April Armstrong, MD, MPH, of the Keck School of Medicine at the University of Southern California, Los Angeles, discussed the potential connections between diet and psoriasis severity.
At AAD VMX 2021, Armstrong presented data from a systematic review of the literature on the topic. She also outlined the questions that she often receives from patients, including whether psoriasis severity can be improved with a gluten-free diet, weight loss or a specific type of diet. All of these may be helpful for certain patients, she noted, but they are not as beneficial as medical therapy.
“One of the things to recognize is that we still don’t have good data on diet and psoriasis, and we want to make sure that our patients know that and that they need to continue their medical therapy as their main course of treatment for their psoriasis,” Armstrong said.
