In a clinical study, Kamedis cream with botanical extracts was 44% more effective in treating atopic dermatitis than Kamedis cream without botanical extracts and 23% more effective than an over-the-counter third-party brand, according to a press release from the company.

“We know that these botanicals are effective. Rhubarb runs through all of the products and helps to reduce inflammation. The cream has licorice in it, which cools the skin. There’s also no soap in any of our products,” Kelli Rodriguez, U.S. director of sales and marketing at Kamedis, told Healio Dermatology at the American Academy of Dermatology Summer Meeting.

One hundred eight children and adults aged 3 to 73 years with mild to moderate atopic dermatitis were randomly divided into three equal groups. One group used Kamedis Calm Eczema Therapy Cream, the second used the Kamedis formula without botanical extracts and the third used a third-party OTC product. All participants used a Kamedis wash for the face and body, followed by one of the three treatment creams for the affected areas.

After 28 days, patients treated with the Kamedis cream with botanicals showed a 6.8% improvement in rash extent and severity measured by the body surface area (BSA) score compared with a 4.7% improvement for the Kamedis cream without botanicals and 5.5% for the non-Kamedis product, according to the company.

The findings represent a 44% difference in BSA improvement between the Kamedis product with botanicals and the Kamedis formula without botanicals, and a 23% difference between the Kamedis product with botanicals and the third-party product, according to the release.

After 28 days of using the Kamedis cream, clear improvement was visible.

Company founder Roni Kramer started the brand as she was unable to find effective skin treatments that merged the best of Eastern and Western traditions, according to Rodriguez. – by Abigail Sutton
