UC Irvine establishes collaborative skin biology resource-based center

The University of California, Irvine, announced plans to establish the UCI Skin Biology Resource-based Center with nearly $4 million in funding from the National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases.

The center will provide research infrastructure, shared facilities, services and resources to groups of investigators studying skin biology and diseases and will be one of only six such sites in the U.S., according to a press release from the University of California, Irvine.

Under the leadership of Bogi Andersen, MD, professor of medicine and biological chemistry at the UCI School of Medicine, the center will promote interdisciplinary research and integration in skin biology and diseases to foster innovation.

Collaboration will take place among five schools across UCI in physical sciences, information and computer sciences, biological sciences, engineering and medicine, along with several individual departments, centers and institutes.

The NIH supplied the grant under its P30 program, which supports shared resources and facilities for research by multiple investigators across different fields.
