Allergan to acquire breast implant insertion device

Allergan announced that its subsidiary, Allergan Sales LLC, has agreed to acquire Keller Medical, the developer of the Keller Funnel used in breast augmentation and reconstruction procedures.
The Keller Funnel is a cone-shaped, lubricated plastic funnel that reduces surgeon and patient contact during the procedures. It guides silicone gel implants into the surgical pocket, allowing surgeons to use a “no touch technique,” possibly minimizing the introduction of bacteria and foreign material into the surgical area, according to a news release.
Hundreds of thousands of the device have been used in breast augmentation or reconstruction since the launch of the original Keller Funnel in 2009 and the Keller Funnel 2 in 2014, according to the release.
“The Keller Funnel has become an innovative component to deliver the highest level of care for my cosmetic and reconstructive breast implant patients.” Louis P. Bucky, MD, clinical professor of surgery, division of plastic surgery, University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine, and chief of plastic surgery at Pennsylvania Hospital, stated in the release.
