The American Skin Association presented the David Martin Carter Mentor Award to Richard Edelson, MD, at the Society for Investigative Dermatology annual meeting in Portland, Oregon.

Edelson, chair and professor of the dermatology department, Yale School of Medicine, and Research Achievement Award winners were honored during a ceremony hosted by the American Skin Association (ASA) Medical Advisory Committee, according to a news release.

Over four decades, Edelson has served as a dermatologist, researcher, educator and mentor, is past president of the Dermatology Foundation and has held leadership positions with the National Cancer Institute and the Association of Professors of Dermatology.

Research Achievement Award winners were: Zalfa Abdel-Malek, PhD, of the University of Cincinnati Cancer Institute for research in vitiligo and pigment cell biology; Ruth Halaban, PhD, of Yale school of Medicine, for research in melanoma and skin cancer; James G. Krueger, MD, PhD, of the Rockefeller University, for research in psoriasis; Henry W. Lim, MD, of Henry Ford Health System for research in public policy and medical education; and Robert E. Tigelaar, MD, of Yale School of Medicine, for research in autoimmune and inflammatory skin disorders.

“I would like to commend all of this year’s award recipients,” Howard P. Milstein, ASA chairman, stated in the release. “Their work in the field of investigative dermatology is vital to the search for a cure for melanoma, skin cancer and other skin diseases.”
