Hruza elected AAD president-elect

The American Academy of Dermatology announced that George J. Hruza, MD, MBA, FAAD, has been elected president-elect of the academy.
Hruza, a board-certified dermatologist and adjunct professor of dermatology at St. Louis University, will also hold the position for the American Academy of Dermatology Association. He will be installed as president-elect in February 2018, then will hold the office of president for one year beginning in March 2019, according to an AAD news release.
“This unprecedented era of change in the health care landscape provides us with an incredible opportunity to advocate on behalf of our specialty and work toward positive outcomes that will benefit our practices and our patients,” Hruza stated in the release. “I look forward to leading these efforts and serving as a passionate voice for dermatology during my time as academy president.
Hruza is an assistant editor the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology and vice chair of SkinPAC, which raises visibility of dermatology among physician specialties and within the health policy community, according to the release.
Hruza is past president of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, the American Society for Laser Medicine & Surgery and the St. Louis Metropolitan Medical Society.
The election period took place March 4-18, including the time of the AAD annual meeting in Orlando, Florida, according to an AAD spokesperson.
