VIDEO: Economic burden of skin disease in the US

ORLANDO, Fla. — In a video perspective from the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting, Henry W. Lim, MD, FAAD, discusses the economic burden of skin disease in the United States.
“What we found is that skin disease accounts for $75 billion of medical costs annually, and two out of three patients treated were seen by non-dermatologists,” Lim, president of the AAD, told Healio.com/Dermatology.
The Burden of Skin Disease in the United States report is based off analysis of 2013 medical claims and is an update from a 2004 project. It is being published in a series of manuscripts in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology, with the first article and commentary having been published earlier this month.
