AAD installs new vice president, board members

ORLANDO, Fla. – The American Academy of Dermatology announced it has installed a new vice president and board members, who will take office at the end of its annual meeting.

Brian Berman, MD, PhD, FAAD, will serve a 1-year term as vice president. He is in private practice and is co-director of the Center for Clinical and Cosmetic Research in Aventura, Fla., and is emeritus professor of dermatology and cutaneous surgery at the University of Miami School of Medicine. He is vice president of the American Dermatologic Association and the American Board of Dermatology, according to a news release from the AAD.

It was announced in a separate news release that Henry W. Lim, MD, FAAD, will begin his 1-year term as president at the end of the annual meeting.

Four new members of the board of directors are:

Valerie D. Callender, MD, FAAD, a professor of dermatology at Howard University Hospital College of Medicine in Washington, DC, who currently serves on the AAD’s International Affairs Committee and is past president of the Women’s Dermatology Society and Skin of Color Society.

Patricia K. Farris, MD, FAAD, a clinical associate professor of dermatology at Tulane University in New Orleans. She is past chair of AAD committees, including the Council on Communications and Youth Education Committee. She is the current chair of media relations for the Women’s Dermatologic Society.

Robert S. Kirsner, MD, FAAD, chairman and Harvey Blank Professor of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine. He is past chair of the AAD’s Council on Education and Maintenance of Certification.

Robert A. Weiss, MD, FAAD, clinical associate professor of dermatology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine, Baltimore. He had previously served as chair of the AAD’s Sulzberger Institute for Dermatologic Education Committee, and the past president of the American Society for Laser Medicine and Surgery, the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and the American College of Phlebology.
