ORLANDO – Healio.com/Dermatology is providing live coverage of the 75th annual American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting in Orlando beginning today.
Highlights of the meeting, which is being held March 3 to 7, will include more than 375 educational sessions, including about 25% sessions on new topics this year. Updates on psoriasis, oncology, vascular malformations and tumors, laser technology, nail disorders, hospital consultations, prevention of medical errors and aesthetic dermatology will be among the hot topics covered at the meeting, according to Allison Vidimos, MD, FAAD, chair of the AAD Scientific Assembly Committee.
Healio.com/Dermatology will be reporting from breaking-news sessions, as well as conducting video “perspectives” from presenters and other dermatologists at the meeting.
The late-breaking abstract sessions being held Saturday will focus on clinical trials, with topics including psoriasis and atopic dermatitis; pediatric dermatology; procedural dermatology; and oncology.
Hands-on-on courses, covering dermal fillers, scar revision, lasers, nail surgery, suture techniques, electrosurgery and cryotherapy, and sclerotherapy of varicose veins and telangiectasia are popular sessions with the attendees, according to the AAD-released statement from Vidimos.
“Attendees will learn the most up to date therapies for a wide variety of medical and surgical dermatology entities, practice management and patient communication while enjoying networking opportunities with resident and practicing dermatologists,” Vidimos stated.
Plenary speakers on Sunday will include Carrie L. Kovarik, MD, FAAD, associate professor, University of Pennsylvania, who will discuss the latest in telemedicine, and Joel M. Gelfand, MD, MSCE, FAAD, an associate professor of dermatology and epidemiology at the University of Pennsylvania, who discuss psoriasis and how it relates to cardiovascular events and other comorbidities.
Last year’s AAD annual meeting in Washington, D.C., had more than 18,500 attendees, according to an AAD news release.
