Novel technique for tear trough deformity may be safe, effective

Using micro free orbital fat grafts was safe and effective in treating tear trough deformity, according to recent findings.

In the current study, the researchers reviewed medical records between February 2011 and February 2016 for patients undergoing lower lid blepharoplasty.

The 32 eligible participants had deformities with micro free fat grafts. The median follow-up duration was 392 days (range 45-1,709 days). One patient required operative correction of the scleral show. Another four patients experienced additional complications, including chemosis. This was resolved in all cases. Infections were not reported, nor was ectropion, lid retraction or palpable or visible grafts.

The strategy was associated with satisfaction among both surgeons and patients. The researchers concluded that this approach may be considered as an adjunct for patients undergoing open blepharoplasty. – by Rob Volansky
