The American Society for Dermatologic Surgery Association recognized physicians with Patient Safety Hero and Federal Advocate awards at the ASDS annual meeting in New Orleans.

Mark B. Taylor, MD, a member of the state-based Advocacy Network for Dermatologic Surgery received the ASDSA Federal Advocate Award. He advocated on behalf of patient safety to preserve in-office compounding at the ASDSA Virtual Fly-In in the spring, according to a press release.

“Dr. Taylor generously donated his time to meeting with all three of his Congressional representatives – Sen. Orrin Hatch, Sen. Mike Lee and Rep. Chris Stewart,” Naomi Lawrence, MD, immediate past president, stated in the release.

Kelly P. Redford, MD, and Terrence A. Cronin Jr., MD, both ASDS members, received State Patient Safety Hero awards for their championing of ASDSA’s SUNucate initiative, leading to model legislation that would allow children to bring and use sunscreen and sun-protective clothing to school and youth camps, according to the release.

SUNucate is supported by the American Medical Association, the American Academy of Dermatology Association and members of the National Council on Skin Cancer Prevention.

The Georgia Society of Dermatology and Dermatologic Surgery received the state Dermatological Society Patient Safety Award as recognition of success in helping pass truth in advertising legislation, according to the release.
