Patients with moderate-to-severe psoriasis who were treated with Xeljanz saw improvements in health-related quality of life over 52 weeks, with rapid improvement in pruritus, according to research published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.

Adults with atopic dermatitis susceptible to autoimmune diseases
Adults with atopic dermatitis had a higher susceptibility of autoimmune diseases compared with controls, with a significantly higher occurrence in smokers, according to recently published results of a population-based study.
Researchers used nationwide registries to compare occurrence of autoimmune diseases in 8,112 adult patients with a hospital diagnosis of atopic dramatis (AD) between 1997 and 2012 in Denmark and 40,560 matched controls. Read more
Juvéderm Volift effective in treating nasolabial folds up to 1 year
Juvéderm Volift with lidocaine was effective in treating moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds and well-tolerated by patients, with effects lasting to 1 year, according to study results recently published in Dermatologic Surgery.
Researchers studied 70 patients (mean age, 49 years; 94% women) with moderate-to-severe nasolabial folds (NLF) recruited between June 2012 and January 2013 from three centers in Germany and the Netherlands. Read more
Antibiotic therapy for hidradenitis suppurativa may induce antibiotic resistance
Certain antibiotic therapy may be inducing antibiotic resistance in patients with hidradenitis suppurativa, according to study results recently published in the Journal of the American Academy of Dermatology.
Researchers conducted a cross-sectional analysis of 239 patients diagnosed with hidradenitis suppurativa (HS) who were seen between 2010 and 2015 at the Johns Hopkins Medical Institutions. The patients had bacterial culture data from HS lesions. Read more
Mortality lower for patients hospitalized for atopic dermatitis compared with psoriasis
Patients who were hospitalized for atopic dermatitis had a significantly lower 10-year mortality compared with patients hospitalized for psoriasis, but an increased mortality compared with the general population, according to recently published study results.
Researchers used Danish nationwide registers between 1996 and 2002 to study 576 patients hospitalized with atopic dermatitis and 951 patients hospitalized with psoriasis, and 5,760 healthy controls. Read more
