LOS ANGELES — Foad Nahai, MD, FACS, discusses the benefits of neuromodulator injections, particularly related to mental health, at Plastic Surgery The Meeting.

Nahai, a professor of plastic surgery at Emory University in Atlanta and editor in chief of Aesthetic Surgery Journal, notes that along with the physical effects of neuromodulator injections, they have been successfully used for the treatment of depression in relation to self-perception of appearance and self-esteem. He believes that these psychological benefits can be explored further.

“I have written an editorial where I've speculated whether cosmetic treatments, improvement in self-esteem, improvement of self-image, may eventually lead to prevention of some of these diseases such as Alzheimer’s,” Nahai told Healio.com/Aesthetics.
