LOS ANGELES — Healio.com/Aesthetics is providing live coverage of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons’ 85th annual Plastic Surgery The Meeting, taking place Sept. 23 to 27 in Los Angeles.

“This year’s [meeting] continues to establish the scientific excellence and the society’s dedication to improving our craft and delivery of the best care possible for our patients,” David H. Song, MD, MBA, president of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (ASPS), told Healio.com/Aesthetics.

“Attendees will experience the broadest array of education symposia, reaching across all aspects of plastic, cosmetic and reconstructive surgery,” Song said. “As an example, our members will be representing over 150 abstracts and over 100 instructions sessions.”

Abstracts will have a heavy emphasis on patient-reported outcomes and longer-term data collection of up to 20 years, according to the ASPS. Papers include research on immediate, or direct breast reconstruction compared to historically conventional two-step approach, and also will address transgender operative procedures.

The meeting is expecting more than 3,000 attendees, including plastic surgeons, trainees and other allied health professions from nearly 50 countries, according to the ASPS.

In an appeal to consumers, a Plastic Surgery Expo is designed to offer “a peek behind the curtain” on subjects from transgender surgery to breast reconstruction after cancer treatment, according to the ASPS.
