AAD announces new board members, vice president-elect

The American Academy of Dermatology announced that four new board of directors and a vice president-elect were elected at its annual election.

Ted Rosen, MD, FAAD, professor of dermatology, Baylor College of Medicine, and chief of dermatology service, Michael E. DeBakey Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Houston, was elected vice president, according to a press release from the AAD. He will be installed as vice president-elect in March 2017, and will begin a 1-year term as vice president in February 2018.

Elected to the board of directors were Valerie D. Callender, MD, FAAD; Patricia K. Farris, MD, FAAD; Robert S. Kirsner, MD, PhD, FAAD; and Robert A. Weiss, MD, FAAD, according to the release. All will serve a 4-year term beginning at the end of AAD annual meeting in March 2017.

Callender, an associate professor of dermatology at Howard University Hospital College of Medicine in Washington, D.C., serves on the AAD’s International Affairs Committee.

Farris, a clinical associated professor of dermatology at Tulane University in New Orleans, is a past chair of the AAD’s Council on Communications and Youth Education Committee.

Kirsner, chair and Harvey Blank Professor of Dermatology and Cutaneous Surgery at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine, is the former chair of the AAD’s Council on Education and Maintenance of Certification.

Weiss, a clinical associate professor of dermatology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, is the former chair of the AAD’s Sulzberger Institute for Dermatologic Education Committee.
