WASHINGTON — Research from two separate studies showing year-long efficacy results of for ixekizumab and Cosentyx treatments for psoriasis were presented at a late-breaking research forum at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting.

“Intermediate long-term [studies] show good, continuous efficacy,” Joel M. Gelfand, MD, MSCE, who served as moderator for the session, told Healio.com/Dermatology. “But we still need longer studies to reflect a real-world setting that will be 2, 3, 4 years of these therapies.” Read more

WASHINGTON — A wide range of topics, including chronic itch, genetics related to skin diseases, identification of a skin oncogene and the possible end of the HIV/AIDS pandemic, were presented at Sunday’s plenary session at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting.

Survey finds almost half of black women have experienced hair loss

WASHINGTON — In a survey of almost 6,000 black women, almost half reported hair loss on the crown or top of scalp, according to a presentation at the American Academy of Dermatology Annual Meeting.

“We recently partnered with the Black Women’s Health Study at Boston University to explore prevalence of hair loss in African-American women, and of the [5,594] women who have completed the survey so far, 47% of them have hair loss,” Yolanda M.
