ASPS reports shift in plastic surgery procedures, increase in buttock, breast lifts
The American Society of Plastic Surgeons has released data showing continued growth in cosmetic procedures during 2015, with a shift of the types of procedures chosen since 2000, according to a press release.
During that time, there has been considerable growth in breast lifts (up 89%), buttock lifts (up 252%), lower body lifts (up 3,937%) and upper arm lifts (up 4,959%), according to ASPS statistics.
“While more transitional facial procedures and breast augmentations are still among the most popular, we’re seeing much more diversity in the areas of the body patients are choosing to address,” David H. Song, MD, MBA, FACS, ASPS president, stated in the release. “Patients have more options than ever, and working closely with their surgeon, they’re able to focus on specific target areas of the body to achieve the look they desire.”

The fastest growing type of cosmetic surgery in 2015 was buttock implants, and “overall, there was a buttock procedure every 30 minutes of every day, on average,” the release reported.
Buttock augmentation with fat grafting was up 28% between 2014 and 2015, buttock lift, up 36%, and buttock implants, up 36%, between 2014 and 2015.
Men accounted for more than 40% of 68,106 breast reduction surgeries in 2015 in the United States, with 27,456 procedures performed on men, a 5% increase from the previous year and a 35% increase since 2000, according to the release.
There were 1.7 million cosmetic surgical procedures performed in 2015, with top procedures including 279,143 breast augmentations, a decrease from 2014, but an increase of 31% from 2000, and 222,051 cases of liposuction, which was up 5% from 2014 but down 37% from 2000, according to the release.
There were 14.2 million cosmetic minimally-invasive procedures performed in 2015, including 6.7 procedures using botulinum toxin A, a 1% increase from 2014 and a 759% increase from 2000, and 2.4 million procedures with soft-tissue fillers, up 6% from 214 and 247% from 2000, according to the release.
