Facial feminization surgery results in high patient satisfaction

Patient satisfaction was high following full facial feminization surgery, according to recently published study results.

Researchers retrospectively analyzed the medical charts of 33 patients aged between 19 and 40 years who were referred for male-to-female facial feminization surgery between January 2003 and December 2013 at a private clinical practice in Parma, Italy. Read more

Wave flap reliably repairs defects of mid-alar groove

The wave flap surgical technique produced a reliable, single-stage repair for defects in the horizontally oriented middle third of the alar groove, according to recently published study results.

Researchers conducted a retrospective case study of 10 patients (six men; median age, 64 years) who received Mohs micrographic surgery. A wave flap (WF) design was used to repair surgery defects involving the alar groove between February 2012 and January 2013. Read more

The double-edged razor blade was the sharpest blade used in dermatologic surgery, according to recently published study results.

“One aspect of the blade that is instrumental to its performance, but is not objectively defined, is sharpness,” the study researchers wrote. “This information could be useful when choosing a blade for a particular procedure.” Read more

Alastin Skincare appoints Allergan aesthetics veteran to board of directors

Alastin Skincare announced in a press release it has appointed Lynn Salo to its board of directors.

Salo has 27 years of experience with Allergan in the United States, Canada and Europe, which includes her role of vice president for sales and marketing for the Facial Aesthetics Division, according to the release. Read more
