Younger women who tanned indoors experienced up to a 6-fold likelihood of developing melanoma, which was particularly true for women in their 20s, according to study results recently published in JAMA Dermatology.

Researchers in Minnesota conducted a population-based case control study of 681 patients (68.3% women) diagnosed with melanoma between 2004 and 2007, and 654 controls patients (68.2% women), aged 25 to 49 years. Read more

Troy Aikman, Pro Football Hall of Famer and a former melanoma patient, has joined Novartis’ new initiative to educate patients and caregivers about advanced melanoma, according to a press release.

The initiative, called “Melanoma Just Got Personal,” will provide educational resources to help people learn more about the disease and support for those with advanced melanoma, according to the release. Read more

FDA warns skin whitening cream includes risk of mercury poisoning

The FDA has issued a warning to consumers not purchase a skin whitening cream called “Crema Piel De Seda” because of the risk of mercury poisoning.

Sirolimus use in solid-organ transplant recipients lowered risk of subsequent skin cancer

Solid-organ transplant recipients who took sirolimus after developing posttransplant cancer had a lower risk for subsequent skin cancer, according to recent study results published in JAMA Dermatology.
