The inaugural research grant of the Fredric S. Brandt, MD, Innovations in Aesthetics Fellowship Fund has been award to Abigail Waldman, MD, according to a press release from the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery.
Waldman, who is enrolled in an ASDS-accredited Cosmetic Dermatologic Surgery Fellowship Training Program through the McGraw Medical Center of Northwestern University, Chicago, was awarded a $41,500 grant at the ASDS annual meeting in Chicago, according to the release.

She plans to interview cosmetic and prospective patients to gather data to be used by physicians to ensure patients are choosing treatments that match the desired outcome, according to the release.
“It is time to move beyond physician’s observations by going to people not yet considering, anticipating and/or recently having a cosmetic procedure to better understand what makes people want cosmetic treatments,” Waldman stated in the release.
The ASDS fund was set up this year to advance the legacy of Fredric S. Brandt, MD, a longtime ASDS member who died April 5 in his home in Miami. The fund is supported by the Allergan Foundation, and promotes and supports the career development of cosmetic dermatologic surgeon-scientists who are focused on cosmetic treatment and patient care, according to the release.
