The American Academy of Dermatology has released a free mobile app, which offers tools and resources for patients with chronic urticaria management.

“Dermatologists treat patients with chronic hives, so we know how frustrating this condition can be,” says Mark Lebwohl, MD, FAAD, president of AAD, said in a press release. “By launching an app designed specifically for these patients, we hope we can help them improve their quality of life.”

The Chronic Hives Patient App was developed with a grant from Novartis Pharmaceuticals Corp., according to a press release from the AAD. Patients can learn more about their condition, find a doctor, track their symptoms and identify potential triggers with the app, which can also be used to create reminders to keep track of appointments and medications.

Chronic urticaria in some patients can reoccur for years, and almost 40% of patients whose hives last for six months still experience symptoms after 10 years, according to the release.
