Breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma study tops aesthetics reads

Research presented at the American Society of Plastic Surgery’s annual meeting in Boston on optimal primary treatment for breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma was the most-read article of the past week on Healio.com/Aesthetics.

Optimal primary treatment for breast implant-associated anaplastic large cell lymphoma was definitive surgery with implant removal and total capsulectomy, according to research presented at the American Society of Plastic Surgery’s annual meeting in Boston.

“Definitive surgery with implant removal and total capsulectomy appears to the optimal primary treatment for patients with BI-ALCL,” Charles E. Butler, MD, president-elect of The Plastic Surgery Foundation, said in a press release from the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. “Overall, this is a positive message for the rarity and treatability of the disease.” Read more

Men willing to discuss facial aging, but most have not undergone aesthetic procedures

CHICAGO — Surveyed men reported a willingness to discuss signs of aging and were aware of available facial aesthetic procedures, but had a low rate of undergoing the procedures, according to research presented at the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery annual meeting.

Terrence Keaney, MD, and colleagues conducted an online study of 600 injectable-naïve but aesthetically oriented men (mean age, 48 years) in the United States. Read more

Liposuction significantly increases quality of life in lipedema patients

VANCOUVER, British Columbia — After treatment with liposuction, patients with lipedema showed a significant reduction of subcutaneous fatty tissue, which improved body proportions and overall shape, according to a study presented at the 23rd Annual World Congress of Dermatology.

A total of 164 patients who underwent conservative lipedema therapy over several years were treated with liposuction in tumescent local anesthesia with vibrating microcannulas. Read more

Finite element model simulates cephalic trim, nasal tip stability

A computerized finite element model of the human nose was able to simulate cephalic trim, including tip depression and tissue migration, according to recently published study results.
