Surveyed consumers prefer cosmetic procedures performed by ASDS members
Consumers preferred cosmetic medical procedures performed by members of the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery, according to recent survey results.
The 2015 American Society for Dermatologic Surgery (ASDS) Consumer Survey of Cosmetic Dermatologic Procedures reflected views on cosmetic medical treatments and ratings for 10 specific procedures, according to a press release. There were 7,315 people who participated to the blinded online survey, with 3,596 respondents indicating they would consider a cosmetic procedure.
Of those considering a cosmetic procedure, the majority in eight of the 10 categories who had visited a dermatologist chose an ASDS member. The majority of respondents in all 10 categories indicated they would consider an ASDS member to perform a procedure, according to the release.
According to survey results, three of the top four procedures being considered by consumers are laser and light treatments for skin tightening and wrinkles, laser hair removal and laser and light treatments for facial redness and skin tone, the release reported. There were about 2.7 million laser, light- and energy-based procedures performed by ASDS members in 2014, according to the release.
Top satisfaction rates were given to injectable wrinkle-relaxers and injectable fillers, the release stated. ASDS members performed more than 1.7 million wrinkle-relaxing injections and more than 1 million soft-tissue fillers in 2014.

George J. Hruza
“It is no surprise that consumers favor ASDS members in the majority of cosmetic categories,” George J. Hruza, MD, MBA, ASDS president, said in the release. “Our members are experts in the procedures they are considering most and that yield the highest satisfaction ratings.”
Top reasons for having cosmetic medical procedures included survey respondents wanting to look as young as they feel, the desire to appear more attractive and feel more confident, according to the release.
“Whether patients are seeking skin rejuvenation, restoring facial volume or a variety of other treatments, our members are renowned for their ability to help patients look their best,” Hruza said in the release.
