Medeon Biodesign receives 501(k) clearance for ClickClean, a single-use laparoscopic lens cleaner

Medeon Biodesign announced its ClickClean lens cleaning device has received FDA 510(k) clearance.

ClickClean is intended for use in laparoscopic procedures for instant, in situ, one-click lens cleaning, eliminating the need to remove the laparoscope from the body cavity during surgery, according to the press release.

The single-use disposable accessory uses a transparent film to shield the lens from blood, fat, smoke and debris during surgery by clicking a trigger on the device which replaces the soiled film with a segment of new and clean film.

“Impaired vision due to a soiled lens routinely occurs in nearly every surgery. A soiled lens is one of the disadvantages and most prominent frustrations in performing laparoscopic surgery,” Thomas Hsu, MD, the original inventor of ClickClean, a urologist at Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center, consulting professor of urology at Stanford University School of Medicine.
