Four join National Psoriasis Foundation Medical Board

The National Psoriasis Foundation has appointed four psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis experts to its medical board, according to a press release.

The National Psoriasis Foundation Medical Board “provides guidance and leadership to the organization on all medical issues related to the psoriatic disease patient community,” the release stated.

The board also advocates for better clinical research tools, promotes medical education, and identifies and promotes medical professionals who most effectively treat psoriatic disease, according to the release.

New board members are:

Richard Fried, MD, PhD, clinical director of Yardley Dermatology Associates in Yardley, Pa. Fried is board-certified in dermatology and clinical psychology.

Amit Garg, MD, vice president of dermatology at New York’s North Shore LIJ Health System and associate professor and founding chair of the dermatology department at Hofstra North Shore-LIJ School of Medicine in Hempstead, NY. Garg’s research focuses on measuring and assessing patient-centered outcomes for psoriasis, psoriatic arthritis and other autoimmune diseases, according to the release.

Caitriona Ryan, MD, vice chair of the dermatology residency program at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas and the clinical associate professor of dermatology at Texas A&M Health Science Center. Ryan’s research focuses on how patients’ genes affect their response to certain psoriasis therapies. Ryan also recently published a clinical study on genital psoriasis and its impact on psychosexual function, the release reported.

Sergio Schwartzman, MD, associate professor of clinical medicine at Weill Cornell Medical College and associate attending physician at New York-Presbyterian Hospital and the Hospital for Special Surgery, both in New York City. Schwartzman is a rheumatologist, who has conducted research in psoriatic arthritis and autoimmune diseases of the eye including uveitis.
