Researchers present a staged surgical approach to repair medium-sized divided nevus of the eyelids with total excision and lamellar reconstructive procedures.

The study included six patients who suffered from divided nevus of eyelids and ranged in age from 14 to 29 years. All lesions were medium-sized, ranging from 1.5 cm to 20 cm in diameter, and invaded eyelid margins and the posterior lamella of the eyelids.

The two-stage surgery involved total excision of lesions and then repair of the defects with advanced skin flaps and tarsoconjunctival flaps, with an intervals of at least 3 months.

There were no malignant transformations or reoccurrences.

Donor sites healed with inconspicuous scars and all flaps survived well.

Five of the six patients experienced eyelash sacrifices, the only complication.

All patients had excellent cosmetic results, except one patient who thought his postoperative result was only “good” because of a disparity in color and thickness between skin flap and recipient site. – by Abigail Sutton
