Limited dissection abdominoplasty does not provide a significant improvement in perfusion
Compared with a full dissection abdominoplasty, limited dissection does not provide a significant improvement in perfusion, according to new research in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery.
A total of 21 women undergoing abdominoplasty received superwet infusions followed by liposuction of the abdomen and flanks.
Patients served as their own controls to avoid confounders.
The patients were imaged after injection of the contrast agent and the dissection was then extended to a full abdominoplasty with the Scarpa fascia removed from the lower abdomen.
One distal venous thrombosis, one infection and one seroma occurred. There were no cases of marginal necrosis or dehiscence.
No significant difference was found in perfusion measurements comparing the limited and full dissections. The full dissection group had significantly less wound tension. – by Abigail Sutton
