Researchers found that the Celution and Fatstem systems were the two best automatic systems to obtain stromal vascular fraction, improve maintenance of the fat volume and prevent reabsorption in patients being treated for breast soft-tissue defects.

The study included 50 patients. Four groups of 10 patients were treated with enhanced stromal vascular fraction fat grafts using cells obtained by Celution (Cytori Therapeutics Inc.), Medikhan (Medi-Khan Inc.), Fatstem (Fatstem CORIOS Soc. Coop) and Mystem (Mystem evo Bi-Medica) systems. Ten patients in a control group were treated with centrifuged fat using Coleman’s technique.

In the Celution system group, there was a 63% maintenance of contour restoring after 1 year, compared with 39% of control group.

There was a 39% maintenance with the Medikhan system, a 52% maintenance with the Fatstem system and a 43% maintenance with the Mystem system.

The researchers concluded that Celution and Fatstem were the best automatic systems for improving maintenance of fat volume while preventing reabsorption.- by Abigail Sutton
