ISAPS: Over 20 million cosmetic procedures performed worldwide in 2014

The International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery released its annual statistics on cosmetic surgical and nonsurgical procedures for 2014, with botulinum toxin remaining the most popular procedure overall for both men and women.

The countries that performed the most procedures included the United States, Brazil, Japan, South Korea, Mexico, Germany, France and Colombia, according to a press release.

Eyelid surgery was the most popular surgery at 1,427,451 procedures. Liposuction held the number two spot at 1,372,901 procedures, followed by breast augmentation with 1,348,197.

Botulinum toxin was the leading nonsurgical treatment with 4,830,911 procedures and hyaluronic acid takes a distant second place at 2,690,633.

Females made up 86.3% of the market with more than 17 million cosmetic procedures.

Breast augmentation was the most popular, followed by liposuction, eyelid surgery, fat grafting and abdominoplasty.

Procedures for males comprised 13.7% of the total with more than 2.5 million occurring in 2014.

Eyelid surgery was the most frequent followed by rhinoplasty, liposuction, gynecomastia and fat grafting.
