VIDEO: Shannon Humphrey, MD, discusses beauty, wellness after menopause
VANCOUVER, British Columbia — In this video, Shannon Humphrey, MD, discusses beauty at and after menopause, which she presented at the World Congress of Dermatology.
Humphrey, clinical assistant professor in dermatology at the University of British Columbia, said women coming into her cosmetic dermatology practice have “have seen a sudden change in their appearance overnight,” which can be explained by physiologic changes and rapid collagen loss. Other reasons include life events, including a big birthday or divorce, as well as increased ageism in the workplace.
Women who have passed menopause are not wanting to look younger, Humphrey said. “They’re wanting to feel better about the way they look. They want their appearance on the outside to match how they feel on the inside.”
“There is relevance in discussing beauty, health and wellness after menopause, and lots of options for those patients,” she concluded.
