In unilateral breast reconstruction, using autologous fat grafting combined with Brava to shape the unaffected breast is an effective way to achieve breast symmetry.

The researchers performed the procedure in 12 patients: six for augmentation, three to correct ptosis, two to correct volume and one to correct tuberous breast deformity.

Patients underwent MRI imaging more than 6 months after the last fat grafting session to measure retention of grafted fat. The researchers evaluated symmetry by clinical photographs taken at least 6 months after the last fat grafting procedures.

All patients completed fat grafting in two sessions.

The mean retention rate of the grafted fat, measured by the MRI was 59%.

The mean symmetrical score was 4.68 (range, 2.7-6.0).

The most frequent complication caused by wearing the Brava device was itching due to dermatitis, which occurred in seven patients.

The Brava device may overcome the limitations of fat grafting, like unpredictable results and limited volume of grafted fat per session.

Shaping the breast by Brava-assisted fat grafting yields predictable and consistent results, according to researchers. – by Abigail Sutton
