Reduction mammoplasty with fat injections to brassiere strap grooves creates harmonious look
For patients with brassiere strap grooves who are undergoing reduction mammoplasty, immediate autologous fat injections to the grooves can improve aesthetic outcomes in a single session, according to new research from Aesthetic Surgery Journal.
The study included 10 female patients undergoing reduction mammoplasty who were subsequently treated with fat injections during the same surgical session to correct brassiere strap grooves.
All patients had hypertrophied breasts, Grade III ptosis and moderate-to-severe brassiere strap groove deformity.
Autologous fat was harvested from the lower abdomen, with the volume of injected fat ranging from 25 mL to 40 mL. The mean injected fat volume was 31.6 mL for both grooves.
Depending on the extent of the groove deformity, the researchers said 25 mL to 40 mL of lipoaspirate is sufficient for correction.
Fat injection along with reduction mammoplasty can better meet a patient’s goals to achieve a more symmetrical and comfortable breast profile and upper body aesthetic, according to the researchers. – by Abigail Sutton
