VANCOUVER, British Columbia — The International League of Dermatological Societies’ 23rd World Congress of Dermatology is underway here, and Healio.com/Dermatology will provide coverage of the meeting starting today.

The World Congress of Dermatology (WCD) is the world’s largest and oldest dermatology conference and takes place every 4 years. This year’s congress, taking place June 8-13, includes more than 11,000 participants from 126 countries, according to a press release.

“This Congress has been 7 years in the making, and we’re so excited to host our colleagues from around the world,” Harvey Lui, MD, WCD secretary-general, said in the release. “We will be introducing many innovations at our meeting including an enhanced social media program, and interactive electronic poster gallery and special debates on controversial topics in dermatology.”

The event is being hosted by the Canadian Dermatology Association.

“It is a major honor for us as Canadian dermatologists to host this prestigious event in Vancouver,” Jerry Shapiro, MD, WCD president, said in the release. “This will be the largest dermatology conference ever to be held in our country.”

Scheduled meeting highlights include HIV advances, the power of ultraviolet radiation to heal and destroy, neglected tropical diseases, calling for an end of violence and stigmatization against people with albinism, emerging cosmetic treatments to improve the quality of life for patients, including those with acne scars, and the latest research in skin cancer.

Separate meetings of dermatology associations from around the world were held Monday, including a state-of-the-art minimally invasive course by the American Society for Dermatologic Surgery and a workshop held by the American Academy of Dermatology.
