In a split-face study, prolonged room temperature storage of reconstituted Xeomin performed similarly to the fresh product over a 4-month period in improving crow’s feet lines.

The study included 21 patients who presented with mild to moderate crow’s feet at maximum contraction. Each patient was treated with 10 U of freshly reconstituted Xeomin (incobotulinum toxin A, Merz Pharmaceuticals) on one side and room temperature-stored incobotulinum toxin A on the other.

The dilution was the same for each product, except that in the room temperature product, reconstituted vials were stored at 25°C before injection.

Lateral canthal lines were graded using the Crow’s Feet Grading Scale on a scale from 0 to 4 (none, mild, moderate, severe, and very severe). Researchers considered the participants responders if they demonstrated at least a 1-point improvement compared with pre-injection photographs.

All 21 patients demonstrated at least 1-point response on their 2-week follow-up visit, without any apparent difference between treatment arms. No significant difference was found in the number of responders in each treatment arm at any of the follow-up visits during the 4-month period.

In the freshly reconstituted arm, 29% demonstrated a 2-point improvement compared to 33% in the room temperature-stored arm, which was not statistically significant.

The range of response intensities did not show any significant difference between the two treatment arms, according to researchers.-by Abigail Sutton
