Radiofrequency microneedling treats periorbital wrinkles in dark-skinned patients safely

Use of a fractional radiofrequency microneedle system on Korean patients improved periorbital wrinkles according to two independent experts and patient satisfaction ratings

Twenty Korean patients were treated three times at 4-week intervals with the following treatment parameters: bipolar mode, needle insertion to 0.8 mm depth, power 12.5 W and duration 100 milliseconds.

Wrinkle improvement was assessed using digital photographs before each treatment session and 6 months after the last treatment. In addition, two blinded dermatologists utilized a 5-point wrinkle assessment scale.

The mean treatment efficacy was -1.075, which was less than the lowest baseline score of 2, making the treatment effective.

Mean patient reported satisfaction score was 3.05, which translates to a rating of “good.”

This improvement was superior to that of other nonablative fractionated lasers, according to the researchers.-by Abigail Sutton
