Harvard dermatology professor receives American Skin Association mentor award
The American Skin Association announced Howard P. Baden, MD, a professor of dermatology at Harvard Medical School and a dermatologist at Massachusetts General Hospital, was presented with the association’s David Marin Carter Mentor Award.
The award was presented by David A. Norris, MD, chair of the American Skin Association’s (ASA’s) Medical Advisory Committee, during the Society for Investigative Dermatology meeting in Atlanta, according to an ASA press release.

“Dr. Baden, our 22nd honoree … is a lifelong leader in investigative dermatology and a pioneer in the research of hair biology and genetic skin disease,” Norris said in the release. “We honor him for his outstanding service to the field and dermatology and dedicated mentoring to a generation of future academic dermatologists and scientists.”
Research achievement awardees included:
- Mark C. Udey, MD, PhD, of the National Cancer Institute, who received the Research Achievement Award in Autoimmune and Inflammatory Skin Disorders Research;
- Alain H. Rook, MD, of the University of Pennsylvania, who received the Research Achievement Award in Melanoma and Skin Cancer Research;
- David J. Margolis, MD, PhD, of the University of Pennsylvania, who received the Research Achievement Award in Psoriasis Research;
- Mayumi Ito, PhD, of New York University, who received the Research Achievement Award in Vitiligo and Pigment Cell Biology Research; and
- Alexa Boer Kimball, MD, MPH, of Massachusetts General Hospital, who received the Research Achievement Award in Public Policy and Medical Education.
