Non-invasive cosmetic procedures have risen in popularity by 520% between 1997 and 2013, but the results achieved by such procedures are not equivalent to their surgical alternatives; therefore, the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery examined how long each procedure typically lasts in a recent news infographic.
Botox (onabotulinumtoxinA, Allergan) weakens the muscles that form wrinkles. The results from botulinum toxin type A injections typically last 3 months to 6 months.
Dermal fillers can last from a few months to a few years, based on the product used and where it is injected. Collagen fillers can last 3 months to 4 months, hyaluronic acid fillers can last 6 months to 12 months, calcium hydroxylapatite fillers can last up to 18 months and Poly-L-lactic acid fillers may last as long as 2 years before being broken up and absorbed into the body, according to the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS) infographic.
