SAN FRANCISCO — In this video, Tina Alster, MD, director of the Washington Institute of Dermatologic Laser Surgery and clinical professor of dermatology, Georgetown University, Washington, DC, discusses the potential uses of microneedling in cosmetic dermatology.
Alster conducted presentations at the AAD meeting on microneedling, which she described as “something that’s old but which is new again.”
She said the procedure could be used for large pores, upper lip lines or scars, to “help to remodel the skin.” Due to the device’s lack of heat in the skin when compared with lasers, there is less redness associated with the procedure, Alster said.
Microneedling is not recommended for procedures involving the entire face, she said.
