AADA issues response to resignation of FDA Commissioner Margaret Hamburg
The American Academy of Dermatology Association has issued a statement regarding the resignation of Margaret A. Hamburg, MD, as FDA commissioner.
“The AADA expresses its deep gratitude to FDA Commissioner Dr. Margaret Hamburg for her leadership and service,” Brett M. Coldiron, MD, FAAD, AADA president, said in a press release. “Under her guidance, the agency strengthened warnings about the dangers of indoor tanning, a landmark step in the fight to safeguard Americans from hazardous tanning beds.”

Coldiron also stated that Hamburg implemented major changes to sunscreen label requirements and ingredient approvals during her tenure.
“In addition, her work to streamline and speed treatment approvals holds great promise for our patients, as dermatologists treat more than 3,000 skin diseases and conditions,” he said.
The AADA is looking forward to working with acting commissioner, Stephen M. Ostroff, MD, and the new commissioner to meet the needs of dermatology patients, according to the release.
