PicoSure laser receives FDA clearance for treatment of acne scars
Cynosure announced it has been granted U.S. Food and Drug Administration clearance of its picosecond laser workstation, PicoSure, for the treatment of acne scars.
The laser delivers ultra-short pulses of energy in trillionths of a second, increasing collagen deposition as well as the density and length of elastin fibers— factors that indicate the restoration of normal skin elasticity and, thus, a reduction in the appearance of acne scars, according to a company press release.
In clinical studies, PicoSure received 97% physician satisfaction at 1-month follow-up and 100% at 3-month follow-up. Among patients, 76% satisfaction was reported at 1 month and 86% satisfaction was reported at 3-month follow-up, the release said.
