National Psoriasis Foundation awards additional $600K for research

The National Psoriasis Foundation has awarded 12 residents and medical students each a 1-year, $50,000 fellowship to study psoriasis.

Under the program, each early-career doctor is paired with an established psoriatic disease researcher to oversee their work, according to a press release from the Foundation.

The National Psoriasis Foundation Medical Dermatology Fellows for 2014 are:

  • Dena Elkeeb, MD, of the University of Utah.
  • Aleksandra Florek, MD, of the University of Colorado, Denver.

The National Psoriasis Foundation Amgen Medical Dermatology Fellowships, supported with a grant from Amgen, are:

  • Zelma Chiesa Fuxench, MD, of the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine.
  • Jessica Donigan, MD, MPH, of Massachusetts General Hospital/Harvard Medical School.
  • Rivka Friedland, MD, of Northwestern University.
  • Dario Kivelivetch, MD, of Baylor Research Institute.
  • Davida Kornreich, MD, of the Icahn School of Medicine at Mt. Sinai.
  • Marina Li, BS, of Case Western Reserve University.
  • Forum Patel, MD, of the University of California, Davis.
  • Scott Santilli, MD, of University Hospital Case Medical Center.
  • Aimee Two, MD, of University of California, San Diego.
  • Shaowei Wu, MD, PhD, of Brown University.

In addition, the Dr. Mark G. Lebwohl Medical Dermatology Fellowship was awarded to Emily Osier, MD, of Rady Children’s Hospital, University of California, San Diego, who will develop screening guidelines for comorbidities in children with psoriasis, according to the release.
