Edwards named ASAPS president

Michael C. Edwards, MD, a Las Vegas plastic surgeon, has been named president of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery at its annual meeting in San Francisco.

“[Edwards’] experience in both the military and the field of medicine give him a unique perspective that will enable him to be considerate, intelligent and forward thinking as we take ASAPS to the next level and plan for the future,” Jack Fisher, MD, immediate past president said in a press release.

Edwards completed a residency in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Wilford Hall Medical Center, Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, and achieved the rank of lieutenant colonel while serving nearly 20 years in the US Air Force. He is in private practice and holds a staff position at Summerlin Medical Center in Las Vegas. He serves as a board member for the Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation, ASAPS’ philanthropic research and educational arm.

“I am looking forward to growing our organization and expanding our reach to provide a greater quality of care, physician education, patient education, patient safety and the advancement of our subspecialty of aesthetic surgery,” Edwards said in the release.

Other officers announced at The Aesthetic Meeting are:

  • James C. Grotting, MD, president-elect. Grotting is in private practice in Birmingham, Ala., and is a clinical professor of plastic surgery at the University of Alabama at Birmingham and the University of Wisconsin.
  • Daniel C. Mills II, MD, vice president. Mills is in private practice in Laguna Beach, Calif., and is an assistant clinical professor of plastic and reconstructive surgery at Loma Linda University School of Medicine.
  • Clyde H. Ishii, MD, treasurer. Ishii is in private practice in Honolulu and is chief of plastic surgery at Honolulu Shriners Hospital.
  • W. Grant Stevens, MD, secretary. Stevens is medical director of Marina Plastic Surgery and clinical professor of surgery at the University of Southern California, Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery, director of the USC Marina Del Rey Aesthetic Surgery Fellowship and co-director of the USC Aesthetic Surgery Division.
