The Society of Plastic Surgery Skin Care Specialists, which includes nurses, aestheticians, and office and skin care administrators, is holding its 20th annual meeting through Saturday in San Francisco.

“Medical skin care involves much more than facials or other treatments you would find in a typical spa or beauty salon,” Abbey Helton, BSN, RNC, CPSN, Society of Plastic Surgical Skin Care Specialists (SPSSCS) president, said in a news release. “Because our membership is restricted to registered nurses, licensed practical nurses or licensed skin care professional practice under direct supervision of a board certified or eligible plastic surgeon, it’s important that our education program covers a wide range of needs from product safety to the latest advancements in stem cells.”

“This year’s program [offers] everything from live peel demonstrations and panels on skin of color to successful strategies for integrating skin care [into a successful surgical practice], and branding and social media strategy for a successful aesthetics practice,” Elena Reyes, RMA, RST, SPSSCS president-elect and program chair, said in the release.

The meeting is held in conjunction with The Aesthetic Meeting, the annual meeting of the American Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery and Aesthetic Surgery Education and Research Foundation.
