Survey: Women bothered by crow’s feet, willing to seek novel botulinum toxin treatment
Recent survey results announced by Anterios Inc. found that 67% of women aged 45 years and older identified themselves as having crow’s feet and approximately 40% were bothered by the wrinkles.
Approximately two-thirds of women who reported being bothered by wrinkles indicated that they would likely seek treatment with ANT-1207 — a botulinum toxin type A topical lotion in clinical development by Anterios — if it received FDA approval, according to a press release. The Internet survey was conducted on a randomized sample of 2,509 men and women.
ANT-1207 is being developed for potential treatment of facial wrinkles, hyperhidrosis and other FDA-approved clinical indications for injectable botulinum, as well as a potential treatment for acne, Anterios said. It is fully massaged into the skin for 5 to 10 minutes at the physician’s office, the release stated.
“By conducting this market research, we are now able to understand the consumer need and demand for ANT-1207,” Jon Edelson, MD, chief executive officer and founder of Anterios, said in the release. “Responses indicate that the introduction of ANT-1207 could more than double the market size for the treatment of crow’s feet wrinkles with botulinum-based pharmaceuticals.”
All surveyed women who previously had been treated with injectable botulinum for crow’s feet wrinkles expressed interest in the product.
Eighty percent of female respondents said they thought reducing their crow’s feet wrinkles would make them look younger, with half reporting it would make them more attractive and 20% saying it would increase their workplace confidence, according to the release.
Phase 2b clinical trials of ANT-1207 are under way, according to Anterios.
“The clinical trials to date of ANT-1207 have been encouraging,” Kenneth R. Beer, MD, FAAD, associate clinical professor, University of Miami, said in the release. “As an investigator in these trials, I have seen the keen interest that our patients have in getting a real correction to their crow’s feet wrinkles that a botulinum treatment can deliver without the pain, bruising and bleeding that can be associated with a needle.”
