Key takeaways:

  • Infertility and other reproductive conditions may signal future cardiometabolic issues in women.
  • Asking about those conditions can provide opportunities for early cardiometabolic health intervention.

DANA POINT, Calif. — In this Healio video exclusive, an expert discusses the links between infertility and adverse cardiometabolic health in women.

Emily S. Jungheim, MD, MSCI, professor and chief of reproductive endocrinology and infertility at Northwestern University and medical director of Northwestern’s Fertility and Reproductive Medicine Center, gave a talk at the Cardiometabolic Health Congress (CMHC) Women’s Cardiometabolic Health and Wellness Masterclass on how infertility “gives us a window into women’s overall health at an early age and gives us some indicators of what we might expect down the line.

“Asking questions about fertility history, menstrual cycle history, etc, can provide important insights for the future and give us a great opportunity for interventions that may not only lead to a healthier pregnancy, but also better cardiovascular wellness down the road,” she said.
