In this Healio video exclusive, Healio | Cardiology Today Editorial Board Member Paul L. Douglass, MD, MACC, FSCAI, highlights his takeaways from the 2023 American College of Cardiology Health Equity Summit.
Held in Washington, D.C., on April 2 and 3, the theme of this years’ summit was "Transformative Equity: Rethinking CV Care."
Douglass, who was chair of the summit and is also a clinical and interventional cardiologist at Wellstar Health System in the greater Atlanta area and a member of the Healio | Cardiology Today Editorial Board, discusses a keynote address given by Daniel E. Dawes, JD, executive director at the Satcher Health Leadership Institute at Morehouse School of Medicine at Penn Medicine, and strategies for determining best practices to achieving health equity.
“This is an ongoing task and ... it is going to require every aspect of the health care enterprise in order to reduce the gap in disparities that we see,” Douglass said. “It’s going to take all of us as a community — both caregivers and members of the community — to make a difference. We pledged to each other that, together, we would undertake this challenge and that we would do all that we could to improve the health and wellbeing of all that we serve.”
