RANCHO PALOS VERDES, Calif. — In this Healio video exclusive, a speaker discusses how to make “a real significant change in the culture of medicine.”
At the Cardiometabolic Health Congress (CMHC) Women’s Cardiometabolic Health and Wellness Masterclass, Sunny Smith, MD, founder and CEO of Empowering Women Physicians, a coaching program for women physicians, talked about how physicians, especially women, are so preoccupied with caring for others that they forget to take care of themselves, which can lead to burnout, depression and other consequences.
“If we really want to maintain the utmost respect for human life and its quality, which is in the Hippocratic oath, that includes ourselves,” Smith said. “Think about what is it that makes medicine sustainable for us as individual human beings. [We need to] start to treat ourselves as well as anybody else.”
