Atherectomy system gains new indication for arterial thrombectomy
AngioDynamics announced it received an FDA clearance of an expanded indication for its atherectomy system to include arterial thrombectomy.
The FDA cleared the laser atherectomy system (Auryon) with a 2 mm catheter and a 2.35 mm catheter for thrombus aspiration when treating stenoses in native and stented infrainguinal arteries, according to a press release from the company.

“Combining the 2 mm and 2.35 mm Auryon laser atherectomy with the aspiration capability has changed our practice. We now treat acute limb ischemia in a single session where we remove the acute component as well as treat the underlying lesion. Patients are now discharged in less than 24 hours without the need for an ICU bed or overnight lysis,” Carlos J. Guevara, MD, FSIR, interventional radiologist at the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology at the Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, said in the release.
The system can now treat above-the-knee, below-the-knee and in-stent restenosis lesions, according to the release.
